The All Saints’ Way…
Computing Curriculum Intent...
Discovering God | Learning Together | Achieving Our Best
At All Saints’, we aim to cultivate independent, confident, and forward-thinking digital learners who can navigate the ever-evolving world of technology with wisdom, creativity, and responsibility. As a subject deeply embedded in everyday life, computing is an essential part of our pupils’ education and their future, and we are committed to ensuring that our approach is rooted in our school’s Christian values of Curiosity, Respect, Kindness, Courageous Determination, and Joyfulness.
We believe that technology is a tool for discovery, communication, and transformation. Through our computing curriculum, children are taught to use technology with purpose, intention, and discernment—reflecting our school’s moral and spiritual foundation. We encourage children not to be passive consumers of technology, but active creators, critical thinkers, and responsible digital citizens.
We use the Purple Mash scheme of work to deliver a broad, balanced and progressive computing curriculum. This enables all children to acquire the knowledge and develop the skills to: apply the fundamental principles of computer science
- Analyse problems and design algorithms
- Use information technology to create programs, systems, and content
- Evaluate and apply digital tools responsibly
- Understand the opportunities and risks associated with online interactions
As part of our vision to Learn Together, our computing curriculum is woven through wider school life and other subjects, with clear connections to PSHE and our RE and Worldviews curriculum. Children explore the moral dimensions of technology, particularly around social media, privacy, and digital wellbeing. We ensure that children are not only digitally literate but ethically grounded, able to make thoughtful choices in the online world.
We are committed to equity and inclusion. By ensuring access to high-quality hardware, software, and unplugged computing resources, we create a computing curriculum that is accessible and engaging for all, regardless of background. Every child is given the opportunity to succeed and contribute, aligned with our mission to achieve our best as a team.
Our ultimate goal is that when pupils leave All Saints’, they do so as:
- Capable, confident users of technology
- Responsible and respectful digital citizens
- Curious learners with the mindset and skills to adapt to a digital future
At All Saints’, computing is more than just a subject—it is a way for children to explore the world, express themselves, and make a difference. Through a curriculum that encourages innovation and integrity, we prepare our pupils to shape their digital world in positive, purposeful ways.
Implementation
In Reception children have access to a variety of opportunities to access technology to enhance their learning. From Year 1 upwards in addition to the use of technology to enhance learning the children are designated one lesson of Computing learning a week. We use Purple Mash as a cohesive scheme of work addressing the statutory aspects of the National Curriculum. Computing is branched into three aspects: Computer Science; Information Technology; and Digital Literacy, so that our pupils are set a relevant, challenging continuum of age-related skills and knowledge for their own year groups across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and 2.
Impact
We encourage our children to enjoy and value the curriculum that we deliver. Fundamentally, we ask the ‘why’ and not just the ‘how’ to explore the depth of each objective within a stimulating environment that encourages children to discuss, reflect and appreciate the impact that Computing has on their learning, development and wellbeing. Finding the right balance with technology is key to an effective education and a healthy lifestyle. We feel the way that we implement Computing within cross curricular channels at All Saints’ helps children realise the need for the right balance and one they can build on in their next stage of education and beyond. We encourage regular discussions between staff and pupils to best embed and understand this. The way pupils showcase, share, celebrate and publish their work will best show the impact of our curriculum. We look for positive impact through observing learning regularly, early intervention where necessary and reviewing pupil’s digital skills through tools across Purple Mash. Progress of our Computing curriculum is measured through outcomes and the record of coverage mainly through work saved in children's ‘to do’ content electronically in addition to #Computing posts on Tapestry.
