Reception

Your child’s first year with us at All Saints’ with be packed full of adventure, team work, fun and development! With our help your child will learn key skills and

gain the knowledge to provide them with a firm foundation on which to build on throughout their education.

We will look after your child's mental health and support their wellbeing, through weekly welly walks, mindfulness and our PSED learning using ‘Think Equal’ and ‘Jigsaw’ learning schemes to support this.

We will be sharing our passion for reading through a variety of rich narrative texts. There will lots of poetry in our ‘Poetry Basket’ sessions and hopefully your child will be coming home chanting and singing all the amazing nursery rhymes and songs we will learn too!

In maths, we follow the 'White Rose' scheme as we learn about early number and the principles of counting.  Have a look at the long term and medium term plans below. Click on the white rose link here:

We are following a validated Read Write Inc.  phonics scheme. We will send our videos and ideas how to help you develop your child’s reading skills at home throughout the year. The link below can show you how to pronounce the initial letter sounds your child will learn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q

Here are a few bits of information to help you:

  • Children will have access to fruit and milk each day, although you are more than welcome to send in a small, healthy snack with your child. (Not a sugary or chocolate snack – having recently won Stockport’s ‘Gold Tooth Award’ we are big on looking after our teeth and healthy eating in our class!) Please remember that this cannot contain nuts or peanuts (including chocolate such at Nutella).
  • P.E. is on a Monday and Wednesday and children should come dressed in their PE kits on these days.
  • Activities and ideas to help you extend your child’s learning at home will be sent out weekly in our Friday “Shouts Out” on Tapestry. These are not compulsory activities, but we do find that families enjoy engaging with the challenges that we set and the children adore sharing them in class. Please do keep posting observations from home - you are so important in your child's education!

Please try to check in on Tapestry regularly so we can celebrate your child’s learning highlights. We also use this as a key tool to communicate and share

important information including weekly shout outs and much more with our families.

If you have any questions or concerns, at any time throughout the course of the year, please do not hesitate to speak to us by appointment or for a brief chat on the door.
